Rebecca Finch Vitsmun will explore strategies for identifying “invisible” disabilities, sharing practical examples of both physical and mental conditions that can be accommodated even without a formal diagnosis. She will emphasize the importance of fostering inclusive environments and creating roles in organizations for the differently abled people in our communities.
Rebecca Finch Vitsmun, an autistic author living with hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (hEDS), is best known “outing” herself as an atheist to Wolf Blitzer after a tornado destroyed her home in 2013. She’s been the recipient of several national awards for volunteer coordination, is the Secretary of the Board for LymeTV, lobbies with Center for Lyme Action, and volunteers through many local organizations in Tacoma, WA. Her debut book, Eliza Dee’s Universes, showcases a young autistic girl with hEDS experiencing hyperphantasia, and provides readers with a thought experiment that challenges them to think outside of the box.
