Title of Presentation: Spreading the Word with Social Media
Date & Time: Friday, May 31, 10:30am
Location: Del Mar
Presentation Summary: The growth of social media use has resulted in a boom in the number of available tools, but this ever-changing swell of resources can be confusing and intimidating. Debbie and Brian will help decipher the resources and strategies local group leaders can use to help in their outreach efforts and to keep in contact with their members.
Biographies: Debbie Allen is a new member of the AHA Board of Directors. She serves as president of the Humanist Fellowship of San Diego and the San Diego chapter of Americans United for Separation of Church and State. In 2009 she organized the San Diego Coalition of Reason — a partnership of 17 secular organizations, and still serves as its director. Debbie provides humanist chaplain services to civilian and military communities, and volunteers at the VA Hospital. She is a retired psychotherapist and neuropsychological researcher. She loves to dance, and looks forward to the day conferences encourage wild abandon accompanied by great music.
Brian Magee is the Communications Associate at the American Humanist Association. Brian joined the AHA in 2011 after returning to the Washington, DC area where he was born and grew up. After graduating from the University of Maryland in 1987, his history has included work as a news director at two sets of AM/FM commercial radio stations and as a newspaper editor. His former work in I.T. had him consistently traveling across North American and moving regularly to places that included Philadelphia, PA, Asheville, NC, Jackson, MS, Chattanooga, TN and Fargo, ND.
