We’ll be announcing details about our 2019 conference soon! Check out information from our recent 2018 conference below.
Red Rock, Nevada’s first National Conservation Area, is located 17 miles west of the Las Vegas Strip offering a 13-mile scenic drive, more than 30 miles of hiking trails, picnic areas, and visitor center with exhibit rooms and a book store. The unique geologic features, plants and animals of Red Rock Canyon represent some of the best examples of the Mojave Desert.
Upon arrival to the Red Rock Canyon your first stop will be at the Visitor Center. There you’ll visit indoor and outdoor exhibits that provide a glimpse of surrounding geology from the death of the supercontinent 250 million to 160 million years ago to the Old Spanish Trail of the 1800s and Las Vegas today.
Next, take a leisurely lap around the 13-mile scenic loop with breaks at the amazing fossilized red and cream-colored sandstone of the Calico Hills, 10-million-year-old sand dunes (now petrified) that once stretched for hundreds of miles, limestone Indian roasting pits and the pictographs at Willow Springs part of the 65-million-year-old Keystone Thrust. There are plenty of opportunities for photos so don’t forget a camera!
At each stop, your knowledgeable tour guide will walk you through the fascinating history of the desert, the same ground of the mysterious Anasazi People two thousand years ago—and have a picnic lunch at a popular look-out point.
