Presentation Summary: In character and costume, Margaret Downey will present an overview of the life of Thomas Paine – a forgotten and misunderstood Founding Father. Downey’s presentation is based upon the children’s coloring book she wrote and her hero, Thomas Paine. While the story is geared to educate and inspire children, adults will be entertained and fascinated with the accomplishments of one great man – Thomas Paine.
Biography: Margaret Downey is the founder of the Freethought Society, the Anti-Discrimination Support Network and the Thomas Paine Memorial Committee. She has been published in two books, Parenting Beyond Belief and 50 Voices of Disbelief, and is a past board member of the AHA, the Humanist Institute, and the Thomas Paine National Historical Association. She served as president of Atheist Alliance International for two years and is a current board member of the Freedom From Religion Foundation, Scouting for All and the Advisory Board of the Robert Green Ingersoll Museum. In 2007, Margaret designed the Tree of Knowledge. Margaret has been a guest on NPR, ABC’s “Nightline,” PBS and Fox News.
