For the many people who have determined that religion no longer has a place in their lives, yet are still dealing with the after effects, Recovering From Religion helps them find their way out. Leaving religion is often difficult when family and culture pressure people to remain in the fold and pretend to believe. So RR offers monthly support groups all over the United States, with new groups forming in Australia, Canada, and the United Kingdom. It is one of the fastest-growing efforts in our movement.
Morehead spent years as a dutiful wife and mother in the fundamentalist Southern Baptist community before beginning her long journey to secular humanism. Now passionate about helping others free themselves from the confines of faith, she serves as executive director of Recovering From Religion. In that capacity she has developed and led the Secular Therapist Project, the Hotline Project, and others, creating practical support avenues for those reconsidering the role of religion in their lives. She is also the organizer of Apostacon and this spring was named Atheist of the Year by American Atheists.
